Our 17 day trip trip to Sri Lanka was our first experience of a tropical palm clad paradise. We wanted to combine our interest in adventure sports with nature and this seemed the perfect option that was less travelled and where we could hunt down an adrenaline kick.
Land in Colombo – Afternoon and one night in Colombo
Travel to Sigiriya (central base in the cultural triangle for 3 nights)See the Lions Rock in the distance from the edge of our hotel pool

Followed by a sunset Elephant Safari at Minneriya National Park – It goes without saying that Elephants should be in the wild and not chained up for our entertainment.
On the way to Polonnaruwa, we stopped off at the Golden Buddha and Dambulla Cave Temples
Our day trip to either Polonnaruwa (or Anuradhapura). At this point we had seen enough temples and sacred sites and would have preferred to head back south for more adventure!
Travelling to Kithulgala via Kandy. We stopped off at a tea plantation near Kandy, which was a 30min tuk yuk ride up into the hill country with gorgeous scenery upon arrival.
We stopped off for a bite to eat in Kandy before heading to Kithulgala
Canyoning and white water rafting followed by a swim in the calmer river
Morning jungle trek and afternoon jeep ride through vast tea plantations to abseil a waterfall
Beware of the leaches!
Drive to Yala National Park. We stayed the evening in an eco safari tent and had a camp fire meal.

Day 10-Day 17
6 day (7 night) surf camp near Weligama Bay at Sion Surf Camp.Learning to surf on foamies
Night out in Mirissa
Followed by a 5am wake up call to go whale watching with Raja and the Wales
Transport to surf lessons
